Fishing Anywhere

Bernie’s determined to try the new Shimano Cardiff reel that he bought and test its performance. So we went to a lake he found near the Chinese cemetery in Khaeng Khoi. While he was casting his bait I took some photos. The scenery surrounding the cemetery is amazing. It may seem unlikely for others to find the place relaxing since dead people are there, but the place offers that kind of tranquility that is calming. Nearby cows was busy grazing around the burial place. After a while we were joined by two women who just finished harvesting some herbs from a nearby garden. They told us about a bigger lake where there’s an abundance of big fish.

From the cemetery we headed to Banna Highway going to the lake inside the compound of the Chulalongkorn University Agriculture Department. Inside the compound are newly built buildings, farmland and the lake that serves as a source of irrigation. Sad to say we were not allowed to fish, at least we were allowed to drive around and take some photos.

Sao Hai Fishing Park

The adventure isn’t over yet. After taking a short nap at home – we hit the road going to Sao Hai District in Saraburi. It’s about 20 minutes away from our place. Our friend told us about this place where people go for game fishing. Once you catch a fish you have to release it back to the water. The fun is in the casting of the bait and reeling in a big catch. Some of the fish in the lake are monsters. They could weigh up to 100 kilos. We were lucky to have some of the avid game fishers with us that day. One old man is even a champion of Jigging (Jigging is the practice of fishing with a jig – a type of fishing lure). They took turns assisting and teaching Andreia the basics of fishing. We asked one of the guys how often he’s fishing and he said – everyday. Wow! Fishing for him is no longer just for fun, it’s a religion.

Andreia had the most catch that day. She had so much fun and for the first time ever she wanted her fishing adventure posted on our website and on facebook. Each of us had the chance to reel in really big catch. But the biggest one of all was caught by the man of the house. He had a hard time lifting the monster fish with both hands. He had to cradle the fish in his arms so I could take a photo of him and his catch.

We had so much fun and the best part was meeting new friends and learning from the pros of game fishing. When you take some time to get out of the comforts of your house and be around nature and get into some random adventure you’ll find out that there’s more to life than just being caught up in a boring daily routine.
